'Highly Commended' in the best new place to work category at the London Planning Awards. The conversion of an underground NCP car park to form the new offices of Make Architects.
Middlesex House basement, now more aptly named 32 Cleveland Street, was the project that many a company would have yearned to be involved in. To be asked to carry out the construction for a prestigious architect like Make’s office was a privilege.
The project was an innovative conversion of a car park creating bespoke offices for the architects of the scheme. The project included integrated heating and cooling within a 13,000 sq ft feature polished concrete floor.
Client – Derwent London
Value – £2.5 Million
The Thornton Partnership were able demonstrate their ability to participate in the design, working to overcome areas of the project that may have hampered progress with limited levels and waterproofing playing major roles in the construction.
The existing ramps were utilised to form a series of stepped platforms and new window openings formed to give a light feel to what was once a dark damp space.
